Health Service Executive CEO Paul Reid has said he welcomes the decision by the Minister for Health to suspend the vaccination programme at the Beacon Hospital in Dublin.
It follows revelations that the privately-owned hospital administered 20 leftover Covid-19 vaccines to a number of teachers at St Gerard's School in Bray.
Mr Reid said there are very clear guidelines around back-up lists and how excess vaccines are distributed. He said once a vaccination is administered it is registered for what category of worker or what cohort of the population the vaccine is given.
