No prosecution over Covid patient leaving Letterkenny hospital

Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding a Covid-19 patient leaving hospital against medical advice have said that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed no prosecution in the matter.

In a statement to RTÉ, they said: "An investigation file on this matter was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions by An Garda Síochána. "The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions directed no prosecution.

An Garda Síochána has no further comment." Joe McCarron, 67, from Dungloe was encouraged to leave Letterkenny University Hospital in Co Donegal last September, despite the efforts of medical staff to persuade him to remain.
