'No more local lockdowns': Prof Chris Whitty says coronavirus will eventually be treated 'like the flu'

Professor Chris Whitty said the main danger for Britain will be new strains of Covid-19 that can evade vaccines. He believes that risk could remain in place for the next two years and a cautious approach is needed in the meantime.

But eventually, coronavirus will be as manageable to the population as flu, Prof Whitty said. He was answering a wide range of questions during a webinar for the Royal Society of Medicine today.
