PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia City Council is debating lowering the city's curfew for all children ages 16 to 18.A bill introduced Thursday would change the curfew to 10 p.m. Any kids caught out after that time would be taken to curfew centers.Currently, 16 and 17-year-olds are allowed to stay out until midnight in Philadelphia.The proposed change comes after a deadly shooting on South Street killed three and inured nearly a dozen last weekend.Council member Katherine Gilmore Richardson, who introduced the bill, says the change will "help us keep more young people safe."Mayor Jim Kenney says amending the minor curfew law would take police officers off the street."I don't think resident of any neighborhood would be appreciative of officers leaving their post to accompany minors to a curfew center," Kenney said.The new curfew would be in effect until September 29, after the school year is in full swing.Under the current curfew, 14- and 15-year-olds are required to be indoors by 10 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a man who they believe exited a car on a Philadelphia street corner and fired deadly gunshots at a man in broad daylight. The Philadelphia Police Department shared video of the brazen shooting that happened in late May on 5800 block of North 16th Street.Video shared by the department shows the wanted suspect dressed in dark clothes exit a dark gray Dodge Journey and run towards the street corner raising a gun.Police say he fired at a 33-year-old man, striking him fatally in the head, and sprinted back to the Dodge. The vehicle used in the deadly shooting is believed to have a license plate number of LRG-1278, according to police. Anyone with information on the shooting should contact Philadelphia police. The city is offering a $20k reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

CAMDEN, N.J. - A New Jersey man admitted Thursday he illegally sold unregistered pesticides as a COVID-19 defense to government and municipal entities including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs.Paul Andrecola pleaded guilty in federal court in Camden to one count each of wire fraud, selling an unregistered pesticide and presenting false claims.According to a criminal complaint, the 63-year-old Burlington County man made and sold pesticides that weren’t registered with the EPA as required, and weren’t on the EPA’s list of products deemed to be effective disinfectants against COVID-19.Andrecola and others put another company’s EPA registration numbers on his products to hide the fact that they weren't registered, according to the complaint.Federal authorities alleged Andrecola made 150 sales of the unregistered pesticides between March 2020 and May 2021 and made more than $2.7 million.

Bank of Canada said Thursday that vulnerabilities from high household debt and elevated housing prices have increased and pose key risks to the Canadian financial system, but warned that interest rates must keep rising to cool the surging cost of living.In its latest financial system review, the central bank said the twin factors have increased the downside risk to economic growth as rising rates meant to counter inflation increase the chance of households having to divert consumption towards debt repayments.“In an environment of tightening financial conditions, high global inflation and increased geopolitical tension, financial system vulnerabilities have become more complex, and risks have become more elevated,” the bank said in its report.
