New daily record for Covid cases, with highest 14-day rate

A new record for the highest number of Covid-19 cases reported on a single day here has been reached. 1,276 new cases were announced yesterday, bringing the 14-day incidence rate to 231.

That is also the highest 14-day rate since the pandemic began. Over the last 14 days, more than 11,000 new cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed here.

The 14-day incidence rate of the virus - the number of cases per 100, 000 of the population - has now hit an all time high of 231.

At the start of this month this rate was just over 100. Yesterday's 1,276 new cases were spread across all 26 counties. Cavan has by far the highest incidence rate in the country at 758, followed by Meath, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare and Sligo - all of which have rates above
