SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gun makers and dealers in California will be required to block firearms sales to anyone they have "reasonable cause to believe is at substantial risk" of using a gun illegally or of harming themselves or others, under a new law that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that he had signed.It’s a subjective requirement that goes farther than current background checks or prohibitions on selling guns to people prohibited from owning them.The regulation is part of the new law creating a good conduct code for gun makers and dealers that also allows anyone who suffers harm from violations to sue.The bill was one of more than a dozen adding to California’s already strict gun regulations that were sent to Newsom, a Democrat, by state lawmakers before they left for their monthlong summer recess.The National Rifle Association said the requirements are vague and represent an attempt to hold gun dealers and makers liable for the actions of others.

Tom Wolf's press secretary, Beth Rementer, subsequently said the park sites haven't been chosen, but work to identify and purchase the land is underway by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.The state's 2022-23 spending plan includes $56 million to add the new state parks to what is currently a 121-park system.The three will be the first new state parks in Pennsylvania since 2005, not counting Washington Crossing, which was transferred from the state Historical and Museum Commission.The money will also help develop the state's first park for the use of all-terrain vehicles and similar motorized recreational vehicles."Our beautiful state parks are among the finest in the nation," Wolf tweeted.

Former escaped convict Casey White has been charged with felony murder in the death of former jail guard Vicki White, who assisted him in a shocking escape attempt earlier this year.Vicki, 56, was believed to have taken her own life rather than be apprehended by police following a car chase with authorities. It is unclear whether the new charges against Casey indicate a change in that fact pattern.Casey and Vicki crossed multiple state lines together before the car chase in Indiana.

Lauren Elizabeth Landgrebe, 50, was sentenced to time in county jail in connection with the death of an infant in her care.  UPPER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Bucks County woman has been sentenced to time in county jail in connection with the death of a baby at an unlicensed daycare. According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, 50-year-old Lauren Elizabeth Landgrebe of Upper Southampton Township was sentenced to one to two years in county prison followed by 10 years of probation for the death of an 11-month-old girl at an illegal daycare facility run out of her home. Landgrebe was also ordered to have no contact with the family of the victim and she is not allowed to provide childcare or babysit, according to authorities. On August 27, 2019, the baby died from asphyxiation by strangulation after being placed in a car seat incorrectly and left unattended for several hours, officials say. Investigators say Landgrebe placed the baby in the car seat around 1:00 p.m. and then went to lay by the pool at her home.

BREA, Calif. - A manhunt is underway for a gunman after a string of armed robberies at several 7-Eleven locations throughout Southern California left at least two people dead and three others wounded. Police said preliminary evidence indicates at least four of the crimes that occurred early Monday morning are linked to each other.A surveillance photo of the suspect wanted in connection with the incidents at the Brea, La Habra, and Santa Ana 7-Eleven locations has been released as detectives continue to investigate.Authorities said they would be alerting other 7-Eleven stores to take additional safety precautions. Suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of an employee at the 7-Eleven on Lambert Rd and N. Brea Blvd in Brea.
