MSP calls for 'shroud of secrecy' over care home COVID deaths to be overturned

East Kilbride – run by Thistle Healthcare – saw 23 COVID-related deaths among residents. The private operator was one of the few who released statistics – but many others refused to do so.

When the East Kilbride News previously contacted other private operators in the town none would provide information on whether COVID was in their homes or how many deaths there had been.

And Ms Lennon is branding this as “unacceptable”.Care homes have accounted for more than half of all coronavirus deaths in Scotland since the start of the pandemic, but it is not possible to map all of the deaths to specific care homes or care providers.The MSP also criticised the Care Inspectorate’s refusal to release information on each provider because of the potential.
