More than half of patients in hospital with Covid tested positive after they were admitted, it has been reported. Some experts claim it means statistics for the virus could overstate the levels of pressures being put on the NHS.
The data – which covers all NHS trusts in England – reportedly show that, as of last Thursday, 44 per cent of patients who were classed as being hospitalised with Covid had tested positive by the time they were admitted.
Most cases were not detected until patients had taken Covid tests, which are carried out on everyone admitted to hospital for any reason.
