LOS ANGELES - A historic monthly high of more than 18,000 unaccompanied children were held in U.S. custody or care along the southern border with Mexico on March 31, according to data from U.S.
Customs and Border Protection shared with FOX Television stations.According to the data, the totals included more than 13,000 children who were in Heath and Human Services care and nearly 5,000 children who were in CBP custody.
The data indicates that 1,081 children were transferred out of CBP custody or discharged from the custody of HHS on Thursday.An average of 15,562 unaccompanied children was apprehended and placed into CBP custody in March, according to the data provided.
