The Cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19 will meet via video link today to discuss the recent spike in new cases. The spread of the virus in meat plants is also expected to be high on the agenda.
The committee is due to get an update from the Department of Health. The rise in reproductive rate of the virus and Ireland's incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people, which is now higher than in the UK, will be discussed.
The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly is also expected to outline plans to rollout further testing in meat plants and Direct Provision centres.
Meanwhile, the special Oireachtas committee on Covid-19 is proposing to meet later this week to discuss the rapid spread of coronavirus in meat plants.
