The Mayor of Luton stepped down down from his role today after breaking Covid-19 guidelines. Councillor Tahir Malik said he regretted his actions which he said had been "below the standard of my position." Mr Malik admitted attending a large garden party "which was in breach" of lockdown restrictions.

In July, he was pictured with two other councillors at a large garden party. His mask was hanging below his face in some of the footage.

The images came out just days before Public Health England issued a warning about a spike in coronavirus cases in Luton. PHE designated the large town as an "area of intervention" last week, and the footage emerged shortly after this.
