Mark Labbett storms off The Chase before telling fans his 'mental health is shot'

The Chase star Mark Labbett, aka The Beast, has broken his silence on storming off the set of the ITV game show. Last night’s episode (Wednesday 26 January) saw Mark, 56, beaten by four contestants as they scooped a staggering £21,000 - and Mark did not take the defeat well.

As host Bradley Walsh congratulated the brainy contestants on beating The Beast, he turned to Mark to ask how he felt. Despite congratulating the players on their achievement, Mark then said “I’m off”.The cameras went on to capture Mark fleeing the studio where the popular game show is filmed, before hitting the wall of the set as he exited.The show's host Bradley Walsh, who was recently left speechless on the show, then apologised to viewers watching at home, saying: "I apologise to any kids watching, that is not how you should take defeat." However, after viewers flocked to social media to comment on what happened on the show, Mark took to his own Twitter account to explain his outburst.The popular TV star explained that before filming the episode his ‘mental health was shot’ and he knew if he did not leave, he would ‘break down in tears.’ Mark explained in an honest and moving post: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight.” He added: “My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears.

A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase.” Fellow chaser Paul Sinha was among the first to comment on Mark’s post, showing his support for his colleague and friend.
