Man arrested for armed robbery while fleeing on bike, police say

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis police say two people were shot and wounded at a Jewish community center on Hoover Road on Saturday afternoon.Both people were hospitalized in stable condition, police announced at 2:30 p.m. ET. About 30 minutes later, police said they had ruled out a possible hate crime or religious motivation in the incident.Police shut down the area surrounding the JCC at 6701 Hoover Road, but said there was "no ongoing threat."RELATED: Israeli, Palestinian representatives propose 2-state confederation to work towards peace efforts"A perimeter has been set up nearby [and] residents can expect police activity in that area," the Indianapolis Metro Police Department tweeted. "Drivers are asked to avoid the area."Additional information about the suspect and victims was not immediately available. The JCC is a 108-year-old community center.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman has been hospitalized after a shooting in North Philadelphia Saturday afternoon. The shooting happened shortly after 1 p.m. at 25th and Thompson Streets. Police say the 29-year-old woman was shot once in the right shoulder and was rushed to a local hospital.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with one count of open murder and two counts of first-degree kidnapping after the body of a four-year-old boy in Las Vegas was found in a freezer. According to police, the boy’s body was found after his sibling passed a note to her teacher from her mother that she was being held against her will by her boyfriend and didn’t know the whereabouts of her son.

MILWAUKEE - A suspect was shot by Milwaukee police after he allegedly opened fire inside the District 5 lobby on Friday, Feb. 25.Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the suspect, identified as a 23-year-old Milwaukee man, walked in around 3 p.m.

PERKASIE, Pa. - The owner of a small, rarely used airstrip just south of where a single-engine plane crashed in a Perkasie neighborhood killing both aboard said he was not aware of the pilot's plan to land. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) continued to survey the crash site hours after a Beech 35-C33 plane crashed near the intersection of Victoria Lane and Brittany Lane around 5 p.m. Thursday. According to a report from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), the small plane with two aboard took off from Doylestown Airport with a destination of Gunden Airstrip. Gunden is a bumpy plot of land that happens to have an FAA-certified landing strip.

LANGHORNE, Pa. - A man is facing charges after authorities said he choked a paramedic when he was asked to wear a mask at a Bucks County hospital. Officers from the Fall Township Police Department on Monday responded to Jefferson Bucks Hospital for reports of a man who assaulted a paramedic. According to police, the paramedic told police 42-year-old Jeffrey Choi grabbed his neck when he was told to put on a mask. Another paramedic and hospital staff restrained Choi until officers arrived, police said. Choi has been charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

WASHINGTON - A federal judge has sentenced a Tampa Bay area man known as "lectern guy" to 75 days in prison for his role in the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.Adam Johnson, 37, of Parrish was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine as part of his sentence.Johnson walked away with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's lectern and gleefully posed for a photo with it during the January 6, 2021 riot.That photo quickly went viral.The man seen toting Nancy Pelosi’s lectern during the riot was mistakenly identified by some social media users as "Via Getty," based on a misinterpretation of the photo caption -- but a former parishioner from his church told FOX 13 that she immediately knew who it was. "I instantly recognized him, so it's kind of like, 'What are the odds?'" Alex Noon said.

CHELTENHAM, Pa. - A carjacking suspect and another person were arrested Thursday in Montgomery County after police say they tried to flee when officers were closing in on their car. The Cheltenham Police Department said a vehicle believed to have been carjacked out of Philadelphia was spotted in the parking lot of Cheltenham High School around 4 p.m. One of the people inside the vehicle was believed to be armed with a handgun, according to information given to the department by the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force. When marked patrol cars approached the vehicle, police say the driver sped off and lead officers on a brief pursuit that ended when the driver slammed into another car. Three people got out of the car and tried to run away, but two were quickly detained.

EDGEWATER PARK, N.J. - Authorities in Burlington County are searching for a man who allegedly stabbed a person and ran over another during an argument in a Wawa parking lot.The Edgewater Police Department said the incident assault happened around 2 a.m. Sunday morning outside a Wawa on Route 130 in South Edgewater Township. According to investigators, the suspect stabbed someone during an apparent argument then got into his car and intentionally ran into another person. The department shared multiple security images on Thursday from outside and inside the Wawa.

PHILADELPHIA - The second of two men wanted for an attempted robbery turned shootout at a Northeast Philadelphia corner store was arrested on Wednesday, the District Attorney's Office said.William McIntyre, 25, was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, weapons offenses and other crimes in connection to the Feb. 1 armed robbery of Big A LLC on the 5500 block of Torresdale Avenue.According to investigators, McIntyre and Resean Lewis attempted to rob the store at gunpoint around 4 a.m.

Two men are facing federal charges after prosecutors said they were shot by a Lyft driver during an attempted carjacking. COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy seized two (02) Indian trawlers with 22 Indian fishermen while poaching in Sri Lankan waters.The apprehension was made in northern waters of Sri Lanka, during a patrol carried out on the night of 23rd February 2022.Considering the impact of foreign fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters on the local fishing community and threats to the biodiversity of the country’s marine environment, the Navy has been conducting regular patrols and operations to curb such illegal activities of foreign fishermen in Sri Lankan waters.The apprehension was made during a patrol carried out by a Fast Attack Craft of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4 FAF), attached to the Northern Naval Command in Sri Lankan waters north of Kankasanthurai and northwest of Kovilan Lighthouse, Jaffna.Thus, the Navy took hold of the 02 Indian trawlers with 22 Indian fishermen while practicing the illegal fishing method known as ‘bottom trawling’ in island waters, through the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The Navy also seized a stock fish caught illegally by this fishing method.The operation was conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols and arrangements are being made to hand over the Indian poaching vessels and fishermen held in the operation to relevant authorities.Including the 02 Indian trawlers seized, the Navy took hold of 08 Indian fishing vessels with 51 fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters, thus far in the month of February 2022.Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy remains committed to carry out regular operations with a view to safeguard the security in Sri Lankan waters while protecting the fishery resources of the country and the livelihood of local fishermen.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. - An Atlantic County town council on Wednesday voted to shut down a nightclub where a young man was assaulted before his body was found days later. Protesters marched through the streets of Pleasantville to the city hall where Pleasantville City Councilmembers voted to revoke Centerfolds Cabaret's Mercantile license.According to police, 19-year-old Irving Mayren-Guzman was assaulted in the parking lot of Centerfolds during the early morning hours of Jan.

PHILADELPHIA - Police said a man was found fatally shot in the living room of an Overbrook Park home on Wednesday night. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of North 68th Street around 8 p.m. for reports of an unresponsive man. Police said the 48-year-old victim was in the first-floor living room with a gunshot wound to the head.

Las Vegas police are continuing to investigate the death of a child after his body was found in a freezer in a home where his mother and her boyfriend were living, officials said.The mother’s boyfriend was arrested as a suspect and was detained on two kidnapping charges and a murder charge, after authorities searched the home and found the body of the preschool-age boy, who was last seen in Dec., Fox 5 of Las Vegas reported. The investigation into the home started after the mother gave a note to her other child, who was instructed to give it to their elementary school teacher, officials said.RELATED: 78-year-old woman robbed while praying in churchThe note said the mother was being held against her will and that she has not seen her son since Dec. 11., and assumed he was dead, Fox 5 reported. The teacher forwarded the note to Clark County School District Police Department officers, who then called Las Vegas police, officials said.Police officers surveilled the home until they saw the couple leave at about 10 a.m.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Police in Jenkintown say they have arrested a man for his role in the "road rage"-style assault on a woman that happened on February 10. Police say the incident happened shortly after 8 a.m. that Thursday.According to police, the female victim turned into a parking lot from Old York Road after an enraged motorist began tailgating her. The man that was following her, continued to do so and pulled his car around to block her path of travel. Police say the man then approach the victim's vehicle and when she lowered her window, he punched her in the face, grabbed her cell phone from her lap, and smashed it on the ground before fleeing from the scene. After a thorough investigation, police were able to identify the suspect as 42-year-old Tyree Darnell Lawson.

"I watched social media cause stress, anxiety and hurt feelings in my other kids and I loved the idea of coming up with a way to spare Sivert from that."She came up with the monetary amount to reflect the age at which he could re-join social media.

BRENTWOOD, Calif. - A woman had her scalp torn off by a Brentwood police dog after she shoplifted some perfume and makeup from a nearby mall, video obtained by KTVU shows, raising serious questions about when and why K-9 units are deployed. Talmika Bates, then 24, is seen in the video provided by her lawyers screaming and wailing in pain. The skin on top of her head was ripped off exposing blood and bone. "Help me! The dog is biting me," she screams.

LAKEWOOD, Calif. - A mother in Lakewood is sharing her story after she and her child were followed home Sunday night, and the entire thing was caught on doorbell video. "Everyone please stay vigilant and lock your doors," homeowner Ali Porath posted on Facebook alongside a video of the incident. According to Porath, she was in the process of unloading the car after she and her child got home. "Luckily, we were at the tail end of unloading everything and had locked the door upon entering," she said. In the video, you can see Porath carrying her child into the house. Seconds later, a man appears in the driveway and approaches the door.
