Man, 69, dies after being stabbed in the chest in Kensington, police say

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say a teenager has turned himself in for the shooting of a man at the 15th Street Station. FOX 29's Steve Keeley obtained photos of the alleged suspect from law enforcement sources. This person, pictured in two different outfits, is wanted in connection with a shooting at the 15th Street SEPTA Station, sources tell FOX 29.  According to police, the shooting occurred on Thursday at the 15th Street Station in Center City around 12:30 p.m. Authorities say a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest, stomach and hand before he was taken to Jefferson Hospital and placed in critical condition. SEPTA officials say the victim and the shooter spoke with a third person after exiting a train before the shooting began.Charles Lawson, SEPTA's Acting Police Chief, says the victim and another man got off an eastbound Market-Frankford Line train at the 15th Street Station. According to Lawson, the two got into a verbal disagreement with a third person resulting in the victim and the suspect both pulling out guns. Police say the suspect shot the victim and ran out of the station. Sources tell FOX 29 that the shooter was seen in distinctive yellow sneakers. On Friday, police announced that a 14-year-old turned himself in to police. The firearm used in the shooting is still missing and charges are pending, police say. Philadelphia Chief Inspector Frank Vanore says there was a 15-year-old was with the suspect at the time, but they do not believe he is involved and he is not expected to be charged. Surveillance video obtained by police showed him in the act, according to police. "Yes, I watched the video," Vanore said.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is set to announce the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with two separate shootings in West Oak Lane that left three men dead. According to police, the first shooting occurred on the 6400 block of Broad Street on June 28. Authorities say 20-year-old Zamir Syrus was found on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his chest and neck. Officials say that medics transferred him to Albert Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second shooting occurred on the 1900 block of 68th Street on July 7, according to authorities. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESIn that shooting, police say more than 12 shots were fired at two men at close range, police say. Officials identified the two victims, who were both shot multiple times in the chest and torso, as 21-year-old Tyheim Tucker and 20-year-old Justin Robert Smith. The Philadelphia Police Department is having a press conference on Friday at 11 a.m.

Fire officials say two people were transported to the hospital after being rescued from a fire in an apartment building in West Philadelphia.  PHILADELPHIA - Two people are in the hospital after being rescued from a fire in West Philadelphia, according to Philadelphia fire officials. Authorities say a fire broke out on the third and fourth floor of an apartment building in the area of 46th and Walnut Streets. According to officials, one adult and a child were rescued from the building and transported to the hospital. SKYFOX flew over the scene and firefighters could be seen on the roof of the building and on the ground below. The fire has since been placed under control. This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Tacony on Thursday night. Just before 11:40 p.m., medics responded to the intersection of Longshore Avenue and Ditman Street in Philadelphia's Tacony section for a hospital case, according to police. Chief Inspector Scott Small says a man was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced dead on scene at 11:56 p.m. Medics alerted police that the victim they responded to was shot and officers arrived on location to investigate. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to Small, one spent shell casing was found about four feet away from the victim's body on the sidewalk, indicating that the shooter may have been standing very close to the victim. Police say an unattended vehicle with the engine running was nearby, but investigators aren't sure how it relates to the victim, who is a John Doe at this time. Homicide detectives are searching surveillance cameras in the area as the investigation continues.

He is also wanted on two warrants out of West Roxbury District Court in connection with two Boston stabbing incidents.According to officials in Boston, information they have shows Tejeda-Pena might be in the Roslindale area, in Boston, or in Lawrence, Massachusetts or in Rhode Island.Anyone with any information regarding Tejeda-Pena’s whereabouts is asked to not interact with him, but to call 911 immediately.

DALLAS (AP) - A Texas man, not his 13-year-old son, was driving the pickup truck that crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a van carrying New Mexico college golfers, killing nine people, and he had methamphetamine in his system, investigators said Thursday.The National Transportation Safety Board said two days after the March 15 collision that its preliminary findings suggested that the 13-year-old was driving the pickup that struck the van carrying University of the Southwest students and coaches back to New Mexico from a golf tournament. PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in broad daylight in West Philadelphia on Thursday morning. According to authorities, a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout his body on the 5000 block of Osage Avenue around 9:52 a.m. Medics pronounced him dead on scene just before 10 a.m., officials say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say no arrests were made and no weapon has been recovered. SKYFOX flew over the area and observed cars and crime scene tape could be seen. 

BRIGANTINE, N.J. - A mother's selflessness was on full display in Brigantine after she rescued her children from the ocean at Brigantine beach before becoming overpowered by the current. According to the Brigantine Police Department, police and firefighters received a 911 call for a swimmer in distress on Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. When first responders arrived on scene, the Brigantine City Beach Patrol had rescued two children and pulled a 28-year-old woman from the water, authorities say.Medics and police immediately began taking life-saving measures on the woman, per police. According to officials, the children were evaluated and reunited with family as the woman was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where she is in critical condition. Authorities say an investigation revealed the woman's children were swimming in the ocean and became overpowered by the current. Witnesses told police the woman ran into the ocean to rescue her children but then became distressed and disappeared under the water, officials say. A person who witnessed the incident dialed 911, according to authorities. "Because of the mother's selfless actions and the witness immediately seeking help, the children were able to be rescued by Brigantine Beach Patrol who were training prior to their shift on a beach nearby," police said in a Facebook post.No additional information about the incident was released.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are searching for the suspect accused of shooting two people in Kensington earlier this month. According to police, officers with SEPTA Transit Police and the Philadelphia Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2900 block of Kensington Avenue just before 1 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say four teenagers are in the hospital after they were shot in North Philadelphia on Thursday morning. According to Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just before 2 a.m.Police say officers with the 6th District responded to numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots and a shooting near 7th and Wallace Streets. When police and medics arrived on scene, they found four shooting victims in the courtyard of the Spring Garden Homes, according to authorities. Small says two of the shooting victims ran inside a property of the Spring Garden Homes after being shot. According to police, the victims were two teenage boys and two teenage girls. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say all of the teenagers are in critical but stable condition and they are expected to be okay. Small says a 16-year-old girl sustained a serious gunshot wound to the face, while a 14-year-old girl was also shot in the face. The boys, ages 13 and 15, were shot in their arms and legs, according to officials.   Small says 21 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon were found in the courtyard of the complex. Investigators say they believe all four of the victims were standing near the home where two of the teens live. According to police, a revolver was also found on the scene, but they do now know how it relates to the shooting. Authorities say they do not have a motive at this time, but said they will check cameras in the area. This shooting came a few hours after another quadruple shooting in West Philadelphia that left several people injured, including a 2-year-old. It also comes at a time when the city has implemented a curfew for children and teens under 18.

powwow in Kamloops, B.C. have issued their “sincerest apologies” after the event rules posted to their Facebook page sparked significant public outrage.According to a Tuesday post, contestants in the 41st Annual Kamloopa Powwow must be “at least (1/4) Native Blood,” and proof of “tribal identification/status may be required.” The rules also stated that dancers must wear full regalia and “be of the correct gender for that category.”The rules sparked immediate backlash, with some social media users accusing the Kamloopa Powwow Society (KPS) of enforcing colonial blood quantum, excluding gender diverse and two-spirit people, and upholding transphobia.“My deepest sympathy to those who have been hurt and harmed in that posting,” said an organizer in a video posted to the group’s Facebook page on Wednesday. “The KPS board has been able to meet to discuss how we’re going to move forward and looking at those rules and making our wrong right.”Global News has reached out to the KPS for comment on this story.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating after quadruple shooting left four people, including one child, injured in West Philadelphia late Wednesday night.A 26-year-old man was found shot in the leg at Creighton Street and Wyalusing Avenue where police say shots were fired around 10:30 p.m. He is said to be in critical conditions.Just a block away, police say two 20-year-old women and two children were found inside a Kia SUV riddled with gunfire.Both women are in critical condition after police say the driver was shot in the back, and the passenger shot in the head.Two children were in the backseat of the car as at least 10 shots were fired, according to police.Police say a 2-year-old boy was shot in the leg, and is in stable condition.

PHILADELPHIA - The attorney for a 13-year-old who reportedly turned herself in for the deadly attack of an elderly man is speaking out after she was released Wednesday.She was one of seven juvenile suspects wanted in connection to the death of 73-year-old James Lambert, who was beaten to death with a traffic cone in North Philadelphia last month.Four of those suspects have turned themselves into police this week, including two brothers aged 10 and 14, a 14-year-old girl and 13-year-old girl.Two of the teens will reportedly face murder and conspiracy charges: the 14-year-old boy identified as Richard Jones and the 14-year-old girl, who has yet to be identified. The 10-year-old was released after not receiving any charges.Police say a 14-year-old girl, who was a person of interest in the beating death of James Lambert Jr., has turned herself in.  (Philadelphia Police Department)The 13-year-old was also released with no charges Wednesday after her attorney Donte Mills claims investigators decided she didn't cause Lambert's death."She took a stand in that moment, and in fact, tried to push people away," Mills said.

YUMA, Ariz. - An Arizona woman was stuck in a canal near Yuma for 18 hours after she tried to rescue her dog who fell in on June 6.She held onto dear life as help arrived just before she was about to give up. A train conductor luckily saw her and called for help.The canal current is strong and fast, making the 18-hour fight for her and her 50-pound dog's life nearly impossible while holding onto a tree.The 12-foot embankment was so steep they couldn’t get out."The will to survive is what makes this a great story," says Sgt. Juan Salcido with Wellton Police, who was first on the scene to assist her and pull her and her dog out of the canal.The conductor who saw the woman and her dog was in the eighth train that went by that day."Her body told the story of her constant fight.

Police say a man was found floating in a river in Bridesburg on Wednesday morning.  PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating after a man's body was found floating in a river in Bridesburg. According to police, a 37-year-old man was found floating in the river by a person walking by just after 9:30 a.m. Authorities say crews responded to the area near the 3200 block of Buckius Street in Bridesburg and the man was pronounced dead around 9:45 a.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESSKYFOX flew over the area and observed several police cars on scene. Police say the man's death is under investigation. 

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - More than 20 years after an unknown young boy was found dead in a South DeKalb County cemetery, Georgia law enforcement have made a breakthrough in the mystery of the child's identity and alleged murder.At a press conference Wednesday, the DeKalb County District Attorney identified the boy as 6-year-old William Dashawn Hamilton, a boy who had recently moved to the Atlanta area from Charlotte, North Carolina with his mother."At every turn this case ran cold, until now," DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said.On Feb. 26, 1999, a cemetery worker preparing for a funeral found the boy laying in a field. Investigators discovered someone laid out his body.

Police say a 14-year-old girl, who was a person of interest in the beating death of James Lambert Jr., has turned herself in.  PHILADELPHIA - A teenage girl is the latest to turn herself in for the attack on an older man who later died after she and a group of other teens assaulted him with a traffic cone. Police say a group of teen offenders was wanted in connection with the death of James "Simmie" Lambert Jr., 73, in June. According to authorities, Lambert was attacked by the group on the 2100 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue on June 24 at 2:38 a.m. The Philadelphia Police Department released surveillance video of the attack and announced the city’s $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. RELATED HEADLINESThe video appeared to show a group of teens surrounding Lambert and some of them could be seen picking up the cone and hitting Lambert. The City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward that leads to the arrest of a group of "teen offenders" caught on camera hitting a 72-year-old man in the head with objects, including a traffic cone.

(Raymond Boyd/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images) INDIANAPOLIS - The bodies of a man and three young children were found in an Indianapolis pond amid a search for a father and his kids who had been missing since last week, authorities said Wednesday.The bodies hadn't been positively identified, but police said they were found along with a vehicle matching the description of a car driven by Kyle Moorman, 27, of Indianapolis."Based upon information available to detectives and evidence collected at the scene, there is a commonality with the Moorman family missing persons investigation," police said in a statement.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man who was ambushed by shooters while walking into his home on Tuesday night, authorities say.According to police, the shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m.
