Love Island's Shaughna Phillips has opened up about a medical condition she suffers with called lipoedema. The star lived with it for many years unknowingly until it was pointed out to her following her stint on the ITV show, which encouraged her to get liposuction.Taking to the social media platform on Monday night, Shaughna told her followers that she had found an old photo of her from 2017 and wanted to share it to show what lipoedema looks like. She added: "How anyone can accuse suffers of being lazy/fat is beyond me.
It is a medical condition that 1/11 women suffer with, often in silence, often misdiagnosed."Shaughna shared a photo of her in a bikini as she posed in front of the water and the Dubai skyline. She wrote: "In this picture I was struggling with an eating disorder.
I was underweight. I was torturing myself in the gym. Yet my legs were getting bigger and bigger."Lipoedema has nothing to do with being overweight.
So damaging to continue treating women as if it's their fault." The NHS website describes the condition as being more common in women and usually affects both sides of the body equally.
