Thugs jailed for innocent stranger attack following covid rules row with bar staff

Two tanked-up brutes attacked an innocent member of the public after refusing to follow covid rules in a town centre pub.

Daniel Davies and Dean Pleavin, appeared before court this week to be sentenced for their violent attack on Richard Cupit, who was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The pair of drunken thugs admitted punching Cupit to the ground and kicking him in the face as he lay defenceless on the ground outside the pub they had been kicked out of for failing to adhere to covid guidelines.

Prosecutor, Mr Oliver King, told the court how the men were part of a group that had arrived in the pub in the afternoon of July 6 last year.

This was during the time when hospitality venues were required to take track and trace details from customers to comply with covid laws.

Face masks were also required unless medically exempt, the court was reminded.

It was said that 28-year-old Davies refused to comply so his party was asked to leave by staff of the Lloyds bar in Wrexham. They did but some time later at about 11pm they returned.

The court heard that an eagle-eyed staff member who had been on duty earlier that afternoon recognised them and informed others at the bar, where Davies was wanting to order a drink.

The dad-of-two reacted angrily when he was refused service and told to leave and became abusive towards staff.

The court was told that Davies angrily pushed bar manager Gareth Roberts in the chest, according to North Wales Live.

When customers where trying to help edge Davies out the door, he again went for Mr Roberts by the throat before flinging piles of track and trace documents by the door into the air and storming out.

Mr King then played CCTV clips for the court which showed a “clearly agitated” Davies
