'We live in America': Kenney reacts to shooting of officers, says he's looking forward to not being mayor
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney reacted to the news of two police officers being shot at Fourth of July festivities and says he's looking forward to the time he will no longer lead the city. On Monday, a large police presence responded to the 2500 block of Spring Garden Street where a massive crowd gathered to watch Jason Derulo performing at the Wawa Welcome America concert and firework show, authorities say. According to officials, a Philadelphia police officer assigned to highway patrol was grazed in the head and another officer, who was a member of the Montgomery County bomb squad, was shot in the shoulder. Both officers were taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where they were treated before being released, says Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. The gunfire caused the massive crowd of spectators to scatter in the middle of the fireworks show, causing chaos and confusion as people began running. Two police officers suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds when gunfire erupted at a large 4th of July fireworks display in Philadelphia.Kenney and Outlaw spoke to reporters outside of Jefferson Hospital about the incident and gun violence in Philadelphia. Kenney said the day was going smooth at first and described the event as "laid back" and "chill" before shooting began. "[The] weather was beautiful. [The] concert was beautiful, but we live in America and we have the Second Amendment, and we have the Supreme Court of the United States telling everybody they can carry a gun whenever they want," he said.

Local county may face longer emergency wait times amid ambulance service changes
COATESVILLE, Pa. - Tower Health announces Western Chester County will lose Medic 93 EMS services.Months after losing two hospitals, Tower Health announced Tuesday that some of those same communities will lose their EMS services come September. The medical group said in a statement that they are consolidating Medic 93 EMS from four locations down to two in September. The new locations will focus on a service area around Reading, Northern Chester and Montgomery counties, and the 422 corridor. This change in service means TowerDIRECT will no longer work out of three units in Western Chester County that provide Advanced Life Support to about ten different municipalities: the former Brandywine Hospital, the Washington Hose Fire Department (FD) and Keystone Valley FD in Parkesburg. The Chester County EMS Council says that leaves those municipalities, like Coatesville, in a scramble to find a new agency in 90 days, mid-budget cycle.MORE HEADLINESPolice: 34-year-old man dead after being shot multiple times inside his vehicle in CrescentvilleDepartment of Homeland Security bulletin warns of heightened extremist threatFired Philadelphia man threatens shooting at former job, police sayIf Coatesville cannot find a new agency by the fall, if someone calls 911 with a medical emergency, paramedics will have to come from other municipalities that are already stretched too thin."That would be coming from a distance from what they are used to receiving when there was a paramedic unit stationed at Brandywine Hospital, says Chester County EMS Council Vice President, Matthew Eick.

Pennsylvania house votes against taking up gun bill after Texas killings
(Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) HARRISBURG - An effort by Democratic lawmakers in Pennsylvania to ban owning, selling or making high-capacity, semi-automatic firearms went nowhere Wednesday as state House Republicans again displayed their firm opposition to gun restriction proposals. The state House of Representatives voted 111-87 against the effort by Democratic Rep. Danielle Friel Otten of Chester County to take up the bill after Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff argued it should have to go through a committee first. The bill has spent more than a year in the Judiciary Committee, where Chairman Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, has bottled up most proposals to regulate or restrict firearms.During floor debate, Otten said the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday created a "moral obligation to act, today, before this happens one more time."Minority Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, listed communities across Pennsylvania that have recently been the site of gun violence. The bill would not apply retroactively and result in people losing firearms they already lawfully bought, McClinton said.Benninghoff, R-Centre, responded that because of the "magnitude" of the proposal it "needs to be vetted through the committee process" so that lawmakers can "get it right."Just one Republican, Rep.
