NEW YORK (AP) - New York's attorney general says her three-year investigation of former President Donald Trump uncovered potential crimes in the way he ran his real estate empire, including allegations of bank and insurance fraud.So why isn't Trump being prosecuted?Attorney General Letitia James didn't seek to slap handcuffs on the Republican this week, as some of his critics hoped. WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A 65-year-old Washington Township woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her 80-year-old mother, officials announced.According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, 65-year-old Loretta Barr was initially charged with assault after police were called to an apartment on Woodmont Circle in Sewell for a reported dispute, in the evening of August 6th.The victim, 80-year-old Florence Dicriscio, was taken to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, but was eventually taken to a hospital in Philadelphia to receive advanced care for her injuries.Dicriscio is identified as Barr’s mother.Officials say Dicriscio died August 9th in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, due to blunt force trauma to her head and body.After a deeper investigation, officials say, Barr was charged with Manslaughter and Possession of a Weapon.Barr was arrested in West Deptford August 10th and is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility awaiting further proceedings.

Senate OKs bill to expand aid to veterans exposed to toxic burn pits, sends to Biden

WASHINGTON - A bill enhancing health care and disability benefits for millions of veterans exposed to toxic burn pits won final approval in the Senate on Tuesday, ending a brief stalemate over the measure that had infuriated advocates and inspired some to camp outside the Capitol.The Senate approved the bill by a vote of 86-11. It now goes to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

Biden likely has highly contagious BA.5 strain of COVID-19, doctor says

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Joe Biden likely contracted a highly contagious variant of the coronavirus spreading rapidly through the United States, and now has body aches and a sore throat since his positive test, according to an update from his doctor on Saturday.The variant, known as BA.5, is an offshoot of the omicron strain that emerged late last year, and it's believed to be responsible for the vast majority of coronavirus cases in the country.Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the president’s physician, wrote in his latest update on Biden's condition that Biden's earlier symptoms, including a runny nose and a cough, have become "less troublesome." Atlantic City holds cookout to restore connection between community and law enforcement

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Public officers, law enforcement officials, and faith-based organizations joined forces to hold a cookout for Atlantic City community members on Wednesday night. The Coalition for a Safe Community held the cookout to help strengthen the relationship between law enforcement officials and community members while also bringing necessary resources to a community that has been devastated by COVID-19. The coalition started back in 2010 when organizations from across the city took action to combat crime and violence. Tockeem Washington and his 4-year-old daughter, Kaabah, came out to the cookout to support the police because Washington says Atlantic City needs police to protect the community. "Law enforcement protects the kids and everybody else," Washington said.
