Corrie Lisa George's life - health battle, charging fans for videos, first soap role
Coronation Street for over a decade, but fans would be forgiven for not knowing that she's appeared on the ITV Cobbles before.Corrie's not the only show she's starred in, either, because she's worked on rival soaps like Emmerdale and Holby City. From reality TV stints, to dramatic health battles, Lisa has plenty of telly-worthy tales, so Daily Star have taken a look at her life.Although Corrie fans will know Lisa best as Underworld machinist Beth Sutherland, it turns out Lisa has already appeared in the soap before. She's played Beth Tinker since 2011, but she played two other roles on Corrie before becoming a permanent fixture in Weatherfield. Her first time on Corrie came back in 1997, when she appeared as a young nurse working alongside Martin Platt. She later appeared as a Family Liason Officer working on the investigation into Tommy Harris's murder - appearing for five episodes between March and April 2005.Before any of that, though, she appeared in The Bill as Melissa Wilson - for one episode in 1994.She's also worked on medial drama Holby City (2004), and even Corrie's rival ITV soap Emmerdale when she played a guest role as Pauline Arkwright.Sadly, the talented star was left half-blind in her right eye after suffering a mini-stroke.Lisa, who also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hemorrhaged behind her optic nerve over five years ago, and says it left lasting damage to her sight. She also revealed that she got hit in the eye with some rope.Lisa said: "I haemorrhaged behind my optic nerve four years ago and I’m half-blind in my right eye, they said it was like a stroke but also I got hit in the eye with a bit of rope."She told The Sun: "They think I’d had some mini-stroke but a specialist said it has to be the rope, I

Tom Brady’s retirement announcement thanks Tampa Bay, makes no mention of New England
TAMPA, Fla. - Tom Brady officially shared news of his retirement on Tuesday after winning seven Super Bowls during an unprecedented 22-year career, thanking many involved with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization in a lengthy Instagram post. But some were quick to note how the legendary NFL quarterback’s announcement made no mention of the New England Patriots — where he spent his first 20 seasons and won six Super Bowls. "This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore," Brady, the most successful quarterback in NFL history, wrote in a nine-page post. Brady went on to thank the Buccaneers organization, his teammates, ownership, general manager Jason Licht, coach Bruce Arians, his trainer Alex Guerrero, agents Don Yee and Steve Dubin and his family in the post. However, he didn’t mention the New England Patriots, where he spent two decades and served as the centerpiece of the Patriots’ dynasty, or owner Bob Kraft. "First takeaway from Tom Brady's retirement statement: No mention of anyone with the Patriots," Ryan Hannable, a Patriots writer for local sports radio station WEEI, wrote on Twitter.Mike Girardi, a Boston-based sports journalist and reporter for NFL Network, noted the same and called it "odd."FILE IMAGES - (L) Patriots quarterback Tom Brady throws during the second quarter during the New York Giants game versus the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, on Feb.

Pennsylvania adding long-term care beds to ease COVID-19 crunch
(Photo by Cesar Gomez/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images) HARRISBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania is setting up four regional support sites with as many as 120 beds to help hospitals and nursing homes under strain from COVID-19, state officials said Monday. The temporary sites will be located in existing skilled nursing facilities in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, as well as in Blair and Clarion counties, and will allow hospitals to more rapidly discharge patients in need of long-term care.Pennsylvania nursing homes have been reporting dire staffing shortages that forced many of them to stop accepting new residents, which in turn has prevented hospitals jammed with COVID-19 patients from discharging patients who require skilled nursing care.Though pandemic-related hospitalizations are dropping in Pennsylvania, the state still has thousands of people in the hospital with COVID-19. Acting Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter on Monday called it an "acute situation.""COVID-19 hospitalizations remain at historically high levels and healthcare workers need some support to get through this current surge," she said.General Healthcare Resources will supply clinical staff to the long-term-care support facilities under contract with the state, with workers to be recruited from outside Pennsylvania.
