Ontario’s financial watchdog says that overall, the province’s labour market has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, but the recovery has been uneven across sectors and regions.The Financial Accountability Officer released a report today saying Ontario’s labour market performed well in 2021, adding 344,800 jobs and seeing the unemployment rate drop to eight per cent from 9.6 per cent in 2020.But the FAO says employment among young workers and people in low-wage, customer-facing jobs such as in food service and retail remains below 2019 levels, as does the labour market in 11 of Ontario’s 16 major cities.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia judge dismissed assault and other charges Tuesday against two former city police officers who are brothers, stemming from an off-duty encounter in which they allegedly injured a man they mistakenly thought was breaking into cars.Prosecutors said James Smith, 53, and Patrick Smith, 54, physically confronted a 27-year-old pedestrian with Asperger's syndrome in a shopping center parking lot in August 2020, leaving him with multiple injuries. PHILADELPHIA - A young man is dead after police say he was shot multiple times Monday afternoon in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 1700 block of Brill Street around 4 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Police said a 21-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds throughout the body. He was brought to a Philadelphia hospital where police say he died. No arrests were reported immediately following the deadly shooting.

Isabelle Jacques, the Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch at the Department of Finance, said Tuesday during a finance committee meeting on the trucker protests that the invocation of the Emergencies Act allowed the federal government to capture funds from crowdfunding platforms and payment service providers which previously didn’t fall under current proceeds of crime or terrorism laws.

Isabelle Jacques, the Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch at the Department of Finance, said Tuesday during a finance committee meeting on the trucker protests that she wasn’t aware of any situation that banks would notify an account holder prior to their account being frozen under the Emergencies Act.

Conservative MP Greg Mclean, during a finance committee meeting on the trucker protests on Tuesday, argued that the freezing of an individual’s bank account is fundamentally against their rights according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Tamara Lich, one of the organizers of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” that blockaded the nation’s capital for three weeks, will remain behind bars after an Ottawa judge denied her bail.“These offences are grave,” said the presiding judge ruling on the bail application.Lich was arrested on Thursday evening as law enforcement in Ottawa began a major push that lasted through the weekend to clear out the convoy blockade following the invocation of the Emergencies Act.In a video posted by the convoy’s official Twitter page, Lich could be seen being led away by officers and saying “hold the line.” Tamara Lich, convoy organizer, arrested amid ‘major’ push to oust blockade The judge referenced that comment during the bail hearing.“You have had plenty of opportunity to remove yourself and even others from this criminal activity but obstinately chose not to, and persistently counselled others not to either,” the judge said, adding that “this community has already been impacted enough.”The Crown is also seeking a non-communication order that would bar Lich from any communications with  three fellow convoy organizers and leaders: Chris Barber, Pat King and B.J. New Zealand anti-vaccine protesters pelted police with a "stinging substance" sending three to hospital with injuries early today, as tension spilled over in an angry weeks-long protest.

Faced with sprinklers, New Zealand anti-vaccine mandate protesters dig trenches Police Assistant Commissioner Richard Chambers told reporters the actions of some of the protesters, who oppose coronavirus vaccine mandates, were unacceptable and would be dealt with assertively.“Our focus remains on opening the roads up to Wellingtonians and doing our absolute best to restore peaceful protest,” Chambers said.

After more than 24 hours, he and a group of other South Asian Canadian truckers approached authorities to find out when they could pass.“That’s when another guy, he came out of his truck and he was, like, being racist. The woman, Joan Burke, 61, was subsequently arrested and charged with his death, officials said.Blood was on the walls, cabinets, and kitchen counters of the home, police said, ABC 27 reported.Burke, who was initially arrested on Feb.

READING, Pa. - Police in Reading are investigating a fatal double shooting of two men that occurred on Sunday. Officers from the Reading Police Department responded to the area area of the 200 block of West Greenwich Street shortly after 7 a.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they located two men with gunshot wounds.

Through an innovative approach that brings greater numbers of health posts close to communities, the Government aims to further reduce walking time to under 25 minutes by 2024. The health posts serve as an interface between community health workers and health centres. Here, health workers provide essential primary care services and make referrals to hospitals for specialized services, ultimately strengthening the foundation of the health system and improving the way people receive the care they need. The health posts have also contributed to an effective national response to COVID-19, with communities still able to access basic care despite the crisis.

Emergencies Act helped end the Ottawa blockades, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said on Sunday ahead of a House of Commons vote on the controversial measure.Conservatives, however, are highly critical of the government move and some are pushing the Liberals to revoke the act now that blockades that effectively shut the city down for more than three weeks appear to be over.There is one day left of debate on the government’s decision to invoke the act.MPs will vote on the motion Monday at 8 p.m. ET, and it is expected to pass with the joint support of the Liberals and NDP.
