More than 100 people have been arrested as Ottawa Police, assisted by officers from across Canada move in to dismantle the so-called “freedom convoy” blockades near Parliament Hill and through the city’s downtown core. Paul Johnson reports.

As Edmonton police and residents in and around the downtown brace themselves for another weekend convoy, the city’s police chief is calling for calm, hoping that leaders and ordinary citizens will step up to help put an end to current divisions in Alberta. Chris Chacon reports.

Chris Barber, one of the principal organizers of the so-called “freedom convoy,” is being released on bail on the conditions that he imminently leaves Ottawa and no longer supports the downtown blockades.Barber was released from police custody after a court hearing in Ottawa late Friday afternoon.His bail bond is set at $100,000, with his wife set as a surety. He is instructed to leave the city within 24 hours and the province of Ontario within five days.He must also, under the order of Justice Julie Bourgeois, no longer directly or indirectly support the ongoing blockades in downtown Ottawa, which police launched operations to clear earlier in the day on Friday.

Police are in the midst of an operation to clear out the so-called “Freedom Convoy” that has been encamped for 22 days in the nation’s capital, with more than 100 individuals arrested on Friday.

Police in Ottawa have begun the task of ending a protest that began just over three weeks ago. Officers are methodically moving in on demonstrators and trucks, making arrests and towing vehicles.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a man is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times Friday night in West Philadelphia. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the area of 54th and Vine streets just before 5:30 p.m.

During a news conference Friday, Ottawa Interim Police Chief Steve Bell said that as of 3 p.m. ET local time, 70 people were arrested as authorities work to clear the city of trucker protesters who have occupied the area for three weeks.

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - A former elementary school principal in Upper Darby has been arrested on child sexual assault charges, according to the Delaware County District Attorney.Police say 39-year-old Jonathan Wisneski of Springfield, Pennsylvania, was arraigned on Thursday afternoon. Bail was set at $150,000.He faces charges of intercourse/sexual contact with a student, indecent assault on a person under the age of 13, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children, according to the criminal complaint obtained by FOX 29.Wisneski has not worked for the Upper Darby School District since 2018 and he currently works at Devereaux Cares School in Downington, according to police.Authorities say there were allegations against him when he was principal in 2018 and those claims were investigated by law enforcement and the district attorney's office.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released new information after officers shot and killed a knife-wielding man they witnessed fatally stabbing his aunt earlier this week. The incident happened Tuesday, at 3:45 p.m. on the 2000 block of South Beechwood Street in Feltonville.Officers responded to a radio call for a person with a weapon, and met with a witness who told that that her son,  36-year-old Thomas Maisano, was inside a home and armed with a knife. The witness also told officers that her sister, 72-year-old Josephine Duggan, was also inside.Police say the four responding officers entered the home and saw Maisano on the second floor in possession of a knife.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A new bill in California would allow private citizens to go after gun makers in the same way Texas lets them target abortion providers.Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday backed legislation that would let private citizens enforce the state’s ban on assault weapons. It’s modeled after a Texas law that lets private citizens enforce that state’s ban on abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected."If Texas can use a law to ban a woman’s right to choose and to put her health at risk, we will use that same law to save lives and improve the health and safety of the people in the state of California," Newsom said at a news conference Friday.Texas and other conservative-led states have tried for years to ban abortions once a heartbeat is detected, at around six weeks of pregnancy, which is sometimes before the person knows they are pregnant.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman is recovering in the hospital after Philadelphia police say she was shot in the face after a bullet fired at an attacking dog may have ricocheted.The incident occurred on the 6100 block of Ogontz Avenue Friday morning around 7:14 p.m. Police say a dog was mauling a small child, and a man with a permit to carry a firearm attempted to shoot the dog.MORE HEADLINES: A 22-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the face after investigators say the bullet intended for the dog may have ricocheted. She was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center in Elkins Park in a private vehicle. She was listed in stable condition.Police did not immediately release information on the extent of any injuries to the child or dog.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities have announced two arrests following an investigation into situation where police say a Philadelphia family was held captive throughout a weekend.Police say the situation began back on Friday, Feb. 4 when a 45-year-old man was robbed and abducted by three suspects in front of his home on the 4600 block of Decatur Street in Holmesburg. Philadelphia Police Captain Jack Ryan told reporters that the "criminal gang" ten entered the home and held the family of three, including a 10-month-old child, captive throughout the weekend.When the victim’s father and a friend came to the house during the weekend, police say they were also held captive by the group. During the weekend, police say the suspects forced the victim to withdraw significant amounts of cash from various banks as his family continued to be held hostage. Ryan says at one point during the weekend one of the family members was tortured.

House of Commons debate on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s use of the Emergencies Act to handle the so-called “freedom convoy” demonstrations has been cancelled on Friday.There is no indication at this time that the additional debate on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be cancelled, and a vote is still expected to be held “early next week,” according to the government.A note from Speaker Anthony Rota noted the cancellation is spurred on by an impending police operation set to take place by Parliament Hill and around Ottawa’s downtown core.“The #HoC will not sit today, Friday, February 18. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating two incidents involving pedestrians that left a man and teen dead and a woman injured The incident occurred shortly after midnight Friday morning on Broad Street near Hunting Park Avenue. Police say a man and woman were crossing the street when they were struck by an SUV. TBoth victims were transported to Temple University Hospital, but the man later succumbed to his injuries.
