Large crowds expected at Jersey Shore for July 4th holiday — causing coronavirus fears

coronavirus-related restrictions are eased and temperatures climb, people are flocking back to the Jersey Shore.And with the July Fourth holiday weekend upon us, that’s making some people nervous, particularly given the large crowds that have surfaced at some popular shore spots recently and poor compliance with mandated measures to help slow the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus cases now rising in 40 U.S. states as Texas orders mandatory mask use “I am really concerned,” said Paul Kanitra, mayor of Point Pleasant Beach, a popular shore town that was unexpectedly overrun by thousands of tourists who swarmed the beach and boardwalk a few weeks ago at a “pop-up party,” paying little heed to social distancing or masks.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia officials will announce changes to COVID-19 mitigation during their weekly coronavirus response briefing on Wednesday, according to Mayor Jim Kenney. The changes would come as health officials and Mayor Jim Kenney say case counts and positivity rates have continued to fall in Philadelphia. At the peak of the omicron surge, around Jan. 3, Philadelphia was reporting 38% positivity rates and approximately 2,600 daily cases. On Monday, the city reported a positivity rate of less than 3% and around 200 daily cases in recent weeks. "There will be some adjustments tomorrow," Kenney said Tuesday morning after attending a groundbreaking for a local playground. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said Tuesday that he believes masks have helped keep people safe during the pandemic.  When asked if the time had come for the city’s mask mandates to end, Kenney credited the wearing of masks as playing an important role in the drop in case counts. "It only happened because of this discipline," Kenney said point to his 76ers themed facemask. Senior Director of Operations for Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association Ben Fileccia told FOX 29 on Monday that he expected Philadelphia officials to make an announcement Wednesday about metrics they will use to determine appropriate mandates going forward.On Tuesday, Kenney revealed that the city would be announcing some ‘numbers and data points’ in reference to possibly easing some restrictions on Wednesday.

(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia 76ers will formally introduce James Harden to the media and fans on Tuesday.The team will be hosting an introductory press conference at their Camden, New Jersey training complex at noon to introduce Harden and veteran forward Paul Millsap. Both players were acquired ahead of last week’s trade deadline in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets that sent Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two first-round picks to the Nets. You can watch their introductory press conference live on FOX 29 and FOX29.com. While Curry and Drummond made their Nets debut on Monday night – with Simmons in attendance on the bench – Harden is not expected to take the court for the Sixers until after the upcoming All-Star break. The Sixers are still eager to test out the partnership between Harden, a 32-year-old former MVP, and Joel Embiid. The 76ers are getting an MVP-worthy year out of Embiid, and team President Daryl Morey — who was in the front office with Houston when Harden played for the Rockets — made the deadline deal to ensure the Sixers have plenty for the championship push.Embiid leads the league in scoring with 29.4 points and has scored at least 25 points in 30 straight games.
