Labour appeals for coronavirus key workers like supermarket workers to go into politics

Labour tonight appeals for carers, supermarket shelf-stackers and delivery drivers to stand for election to their local council.

Deputy leader Angela Rayner said key workers who kept the country running during the coronavirus lockdown were exactly the sort of people needed in power at town halls to help rebuild after the pandemic.

Ms Rayner, who worked as a home carer and was a trade union official before becoming an MP, added: “Our key worker heroes have been on the frontline working round the clock to get us through this crisis. “They have risen to the challenge during this pandemic, putting their lives on the line to keep our country going and make sure we are all cared for, fed and connected. “Now we need them to help lead the
