WASHINGTON : An analysis of Geisinger's electronic health records has revealed chronic kidney disease to be the leading risk factor for hospitalisation from COVID-19.A team of Geisinger researchers studied the health records of 12,971 individuals who were tested for COVID-19 within the Geisinger system between March 7 and May 19.
Of this group, 1,604 were COVID-positive, and 354 required hospitalisation.Also Read | India’s quest to fix its payments puzzleThe team analyzed the records for association between specific clinical conditions, including kidney, cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic conditions, and COVID-19 hospitalisation.Overall, chronic kidney disease was most strongly associated with hospitalisation, and COVID-19 patients.
