Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper is still unable to speak after his brutal and lengthy Covid-19 battle. Derek, 54, returned home in April 2021 after spending a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus in 2020, which has since left him battling a number of ongoing health issues.

He now needs round the clock care as he recovers from the lasting damage the deadly bug had on him and his body. Now, Good Morning Britain host Kate, also 54, has revealed her husband's speech is extremely restricted, which means he can't talk and have a conversation.

I watch him microscopically,” the TV personality told You magazine. “I feel like I read every flicker so I 'get' him, but you wouldn't walk into the room and think a conversation was being had.

But he understands an enormous amount, he just can’t respond." Kate went on to share that while things may never be the same again, they still have moments of connection between them and their kids Darcey, 15, and 12 year old Billy. "I don’t think things will ever be the same again, because I don’t think we as a family and he as a human being could go through something like that and not be impacted by it," she explained.
