Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the first prime minister outside of the Indian National Congress to win two consecutive terms with a full majority and the second to complete five years in office after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that the state government will bring coronavirus guidelines after video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the ongoing Covid-19 situation on 27 April. “People must take precautions," the Karnataka CM further said, adding that the central government has given instructions to take precautions regarding Covid-19.
Meanwhile, India on Sunday recorded 2,593 new coronavirus infections, taking the tally to 4,30,57,545. The active cases increased to 15,873, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The death toll climbed to 5,22,193 with 44 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded as 98.75 per cent, the ministry said.
An increase of 794 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.59 per cent and the weekly positivity rate as 0.54 per cent, according to the ministry.
