Britain's Boris Johnson is expected to announce an easing of England's coronavirus restrictions as he battles to save his premiership.
The prime minister and his cabinet will examine the latest Covid-19 data this morning before making a statement in the Commons this afternoon.
It comes as Mr Johnson faces a growing campaign among his own MPs to demand a no-confidence vote in his leadership. The UK introduced a series of measures known as Plan B in December to counter the Omicron variant of Covid 19.
Those measures were due to expire on 26 January, unless renewed. With case numbers still very high, but starting to fall, the cabinet meets today to approve plans to end work from home guidance and the use of Covid passes, though mask wearing requirements are likely to remain.
