The IRS said "resource constraints" have limited the agency’s ability to conduct audits against high net worth individuals as well as major corporations and complex businesses," according to a statement released in May. "Audit rates for taxpayers with incomes of more than $200,000 decreased the most, largely because higher-income audits tend to be more complicated and require auditors to manually review multiple issues," Ken Corbin, chief taxpayer experience officer for the agency, told the House Oversight Subcommittee in May.A 2021 report found that IRS audits overall declined by 44% between the fiscal years of 2015 and 2019.

The report found that Americans making more than $5 million per year only had a 2% chance of being audited, according to the report.

The most recent announcement by the IRS comes as Democratic leaders push to boost taxes on some high earners and use the money to extend the solvency of Medicare.

SOUTHLAKE, Texas - Carroll ISD in Southlake is reviewing sections of the book Life Is So Good, co-written by George Dawson to see if it is appropriate to teach at George Dawson Middle School.Dawson, the grandson of a slave who lived most of his life in Dallas, published the biography in 2000 after learning to read at the age of 98.Life Is So Good looks back on Dawson's life, discussing what things were like in the 20th Century, including topics like lynching, racism, segregation and civil rights.Carroll ISD says the book was requested to be used as part of instructional materials for a 7th grade class.After review by a group of teachers, principals and curriculum coordinators it was determined certain sections of the book were not appropriate for 7th grade students.The district is still reviewing which sections of the book are appropriate for instruction.The Carroll ISD School board voted to name the middle school after Dawson in 2002.

Police: Suspect shot with own gun after victim gains control during attempted robbery in Philadelphia driveway

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a shooting where an attempted robbery victim gained control over a suspect and shot him. According to police, the attempted robbery occurred on the 8000 block of Rodney Street in a driveway. Authorities say a man was unloading groceries from his car when a suspect approached him, saying, "This is a robbery," and pointed a gun at him. After a struggle over the weapon ensued, the victim was able to gain control of the gun, which discharged one time, grazing the suspect in the abdomen, according to police. Officials say the suspect was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was placed in stable condition. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say the victim sustained an injury from a bite on his hand, but he did no seek medical treatment. According to authorities, police recovered the weapon used and the suspect is under arrest. PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department has released new video showing the end of a police chase after a shooting near the Shepard Recreation Center. Police say nearly 100 shots were fired on August 16 on the 400 block of North 57th Street. According to officials, responding officers found five people between the ages of 17 and 25 suffering from gunshot wounds, including a 21-year-old who was shot in the head.
