CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - A mother and her boyfriend have been charged with abusing a 6-year-old child who was hospitalized from the severe beatings, according to Clayton County Police.Officials say the little boy is in critical condition, suffering from broken bones, blood clots in his lung and bleeding on the brain. At one point, they believe he fell unconscious.FOX 5 Atlanta was the only crew present as officers took the mother, Porshe Wells, into custody.Clayton County police say Wells' boyfriend, Napoleon Ates, accused the 6-year-old of stealing money over the weekend.

An Ontario family and police are expressing an overwhelming sense of gratitude and relief after a toddler was discovered wandering along a busy road in the middle of the night near Windsor, Ont.

PHILADELPHIA - Police in Bucks County are warning about a phone scam where they say the caller poses as a police officer. Bensalem Township police say a teenage employee at a local business on Bensalem Boulevard received a call from someone claiming to be a police lieutenant. The caller told the employee that counterfeit money had been used at the business and that the business would have to pay a fine.The caller then told the teen that she had to take money out of the register and go to the ATM to take out more money for the bogus fine.MORE HEADLINES: Police say the teen drove to a nearby ATM in an attempt to withdraw money. The teen’s father was able to locate her before any money was transferred.Bensalem Township police say the teen was never in the company of the unknown caller and that she was driving alone when her father was able to catch up to her.

BRISTOL, Pa. - A Bucks County boy is one of less than two dozen people in the world battling a rare and incurable disease that has stolen his hearing and greatly impacted his ability to walk.Cole Canning, a 6-year-old from Bristol, was diagnosed in 2021 with Mitchell Syndrome, a genetic mutation that attacks the nerves in a patients body. "It could be the nerves in your eyes, you could have vision problems, mobility issues," Cole's Dad Matthew said. "You don't know when it's coming or when it's going away or staying forever."Cole's diagnosis began when his Pre-K teacher thought he might suffer hearing loss.

RICHMOND, Va. - A gunman who opened fire minutes after a high school graduation in Richmond, Virginia, targeted an 18-year-old graduate he had a long-running dispute with, police said Wednesday.Shawn Jackson, 18, and his father, Lorenzo Smith, 36, were both killed Tuesday in the gunfire, which sent hundreds fleeing in panic outside the state capital’s Altria Theater after the graduation ceremony for Huguenot High School. Five other people were wounded by gunfire, and at least 12 more suffered other injuries or were treated for anxiety due to the mayhem, according to police.Richmond Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards said the shooting suspect, Amari Pollard, 19, knew Jackson and the two had been embroiled in a dispute for more than a year.

PHILADELPHIA - Vehicle thefts in Philadelphia have nearly doubled from this point last year and criminals are targeting two specific car brands, according to the latest data from police. The Philadelphia Police Department said there have been more than 9,000 vehicle thefts so far this year and half of those have involved Kias and Hyundais. "Obviously this is a major concern for us, the stolen cars out there lead to a lot of things, some are just joyriding others are used in crimes," Chief Walter Smith said.To prevent the growing trend, 21 districts from around Philadelphia came together Wednesday to hand out vehicle locks to Kia and Hyundai owners. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice also reached out to victims of vehicle thefts to let them know about the giveaway. The device - commonly called ‘The Club’ - goes onto the steering wheel and is locked with a key. Authorities say the lock makes the car impossible for criminals to drive, and they hope it's visual presence is enough to prevent car thefts from happening."We found that people are multiple-time victims of this unfortunately," Captain Marques Newsome from the Philadelphia Police Department's 15th District said. Data from the department obtained by FOX 29's Kelly Rule shows that there have been over 5,600 Kias and Hyundais stolen in Philadelphia this year, up from just 337 at this time in 2022.In an effort to combat car thefts, Philadelphia police are giving away wheel lock to residents with Hyundais and Kias.In a month-by-month breakdown, May saw the highest number of cars stolen so far this year.

PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery at a variety store in Philadelphia’s Olney section required the help of a bomb squad early Wednesday morning.An employee told police that three men entered the store on the 4700 block of North 5th Street with what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.It was actually an illegal improvised explosive device, which the suspects placed inside the money slot of an ATM inside the store, according to authorities.After attempting the light the fuse, which did not burn, police say the suspects fled the store and never returned. MORE HEADLINES:The store and surrounding area was evacuated by police as a bomb squad removed the device from the ATM, and put it in a safe container to transport back to headquarters.The explosive device was found to be a six-inches long, and one inch in diameter with a three-inch fuze."It will do damage to an ATM and it will cause very, very severe injuries to someone that's holding it or standing near it," said Chief Small. "So this is a very, very dangerous device."Small went on to say they were "very, very lucky" that the device did not explode.

Yellowstone National Park seem to be having difficulty keeping wildlife wild.In yet another instance of a parkgoer getting too friendly with an animal, an unidentified guest to the Wyoming park touched an elk calf and loaded it into their personal vehicle.The National Park Service included the incident — which occurred during Memorial Day weekend, the last weekend in May — in a press release urging tourists to keep their distance from Yellowstone’s wild animals.The authority said the elk calf was placed in a car and driven on U.S. Highway 191 in the park.
