Indoor gatherings blamed for 'sudden and significant' coronavirus outbreak at Scots university

University of St Andrews. NHS Fife bosses say the rise in positive tests for the virus are a “direct result” of protocols not being followed “particularly around gathering indoors”.

We previously told how St Andrews University confirmed that 14 have tested positive with more than 40 others self-isolating after an outbreak of Covid-19, which chiefs have called "extremely concerning".

Four different halls of residence as well as private accommodation has been affected by the cases.The Daily Record have been shown an email shared with students in which University Principle and Vice-Chancellor Sally Mapstone said: "I am sorry to report to you that we have learned of a sudden and significant increase in Covid infections amongst students.
