India reported a daily increase of 782 covid-19 cases, marking a decline in the nation's active cases to 8,675, as per the health ministry data on Saturday.
With a daily positivity rate of 0.61% and a weekly positivity rate of 0.77%, this marks a continuation of the downtrend seen in recent weeks.
In the past three years, the nation has witnessed over 44.9 million cases and recorded 531,824 deaths due to the virus. Currently, hospital admissions predominantly involve elderly individuals and those with underlying health conditions, prompting a renewed push for booster vaccinations.
According to scientists, the XBB.1.16 variant spurred the previous surge, but cases are now tapering off nationwide. Experts attribute this decline, in part, to the rise of 'hybrid immunity', resulting from both vaccination and natural infection.
