"Immediate action" from the Scottish Government is required to avoid "significant disruption" to schools amid the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases, teachers' leaders have warned.

The NASUWT union has insisted a range of measures are needed to help combat surging infection levels resulting from the Omicron variant as schools prepare to open again after the Christmas holidays.

Ministers are being urged to fund air-cleaning units for every school and college that needs such devices in a bid to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission in the classroom.The union is also calling for schools to get additional cash to help both schools and colleges cover the costs of supply staff to cover for coronavirus-related absences as well as more resources
