People in ICU with Covid-19 are predominantly unvaccinated people and those who are fully vaccinated but have underlying health conditions, according to the head of the intensive care unit at University Hospital Limerick.
There are 259 people with Covid-19 being treated in hospitals around the country yesterday, with 48 of these patients receiving intensive care, the head of the HSE has said this morning.
Paul Reid said this was up from 40 people in hospital six weeks ago.
