The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has called for guidelines to be put in place to allow for peaceful protests during current Level 5 restrictions.
Executive Director Liam Herrick said if guidelines were put in place, people could protest in a safe way and the right to peaceful assembly is an essential part of our democracy.
On last weekend's protests in Dublin, Mr Herrick said what happened was "completely wrong, irresponsible" and put peoples' health at risk.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he also said a planned protest in Cork this weekend should not go ahead. "Everybody has a responsibility at the moment to each other.
