Iowa tornadoes: 4 of 7 killed were in same family, authorities sayAccording to the NWS, each survey team is equipped with a technology kit before they head to the site of the storm damage.

The kit includes things such as a GPS, a computer with damage survey software, an atlas, a digital camera, a compass and a notebook."Most commonly, a survey team will conduct a full ground survey in order to assess tornado damage, but occasionally, a team may also conduct an aerial survey if the spatial extent of the damage is large enough," the NWS office in Amarillo, Texas, wrote in a 2011 post about damage surveys.According to the NWS, most teams will start with determining the starting and ending points of the suspected tornado.

They will then move on to determining the width of the damage path, followed by locating the worst damage along that path. The survey team will assign one of 28 indicators to each type of storm damage they see.

The indicators include all types of structures and even tree damage."Each one of the damage indicators has a description of the typical construction for that category of indicator," the NWS wrote. "For example, typical construction for one- and two-family residences includes asphalt shingles, tile, slate or metal roofing, attached single car garage, and brick veneer, wood panels, stucco, vinyl or metal siding."Once all of the indicators are assigned, the team moves on to assign a degree of damage to each of them.

Maritime Pacts with India pose NO threat to National Security – MOD
COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Defence Ministry has issued a clarification with regard to the security pacts signed with India over a Floating Dock, Dornier Reconnaissance Aircraft, and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Colombo (MRCC).The recently signed maritime security pacts with the Government of India will neither result in hindrance nor threat to the national security of Sri Lanka, as misinterpreted by several print and electronic media, said the Ministry of Defence. The receipt of the Floating Dock Facility from the government of India at no cost has been projected to reduce the annual outlay of Rs. 600 million for outsourced docking repairs and this proposal has been in the pipeline since the year 2015.The Dornier Reconnaissance Aircraft is basically deployed for maritime surveillance, search and rescue operations and to deliver information to various required platforms. The unavailability of this capability was the motive for bilateral dialogues between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka during the last couple of years and it was agreed upon to provide one Dornier Reconnaissance Aircraft to Sri Lanka free of charge, it added.Accordingly, during the period earmarked for the manufacturing process of said aircraft’ the Government of India will lend a similar aircraft which will be piloted by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) pilots.

Terrifying Covid variant warning as scientists spot new 'Delta-Omicron' hybrid
coronavirus that appears to be a hybrid of the Omicron and Delta variants. The worrying discovery comes after multiple false alarms over the last few months, with many preempting fears that the two hugely disruptive strains would combine to create the dreaded 'Deltacron'.Virologists from L’Institut Pasteur in Paris announced their findings after sequencing genomes in positive Covid samples taken from several regions across France. They now believe that the variant could have been circulating since early January. Commenting on the findings, Aris Katzourakis, a professor of evolution and genomics at the University of Oxford said: "This one is legit."“[It is] one to keep an eye on.”Other similar clusters are also said to have been found in Denmark and the Netherlands, but have not been confirmed yet.Dr Stephen Griffin, a virologist at the University of Leeds, said that while the new variant "doesn’t seem to have taken off as a dominant strain yet", this may only be because of a "very slow start" based on the number of initial cases. But he added that "fact it persists in the fact of Omicron" could suggest that its ability to transmit "can’t be too shoddy".No conclusive data has yet shown whether Deltacron can be considered to be more infectious or deadly than its 'root' variants, Delta and Omicron.Covid technical lead Maria van Kerkhove from the World Health Organisation revaled on Thursday that her team had been “tracking and discussing” the new variant.
