Six months ago today the shutters came down. On March 23 a grim-faced Boris Johnson informed the country that there was no choice but to go into lockdown.

At a stroke, a new era was written into the history books. From this moment on there was either BC or AC – Before Covid or After Covid.

All our lives were upended. As we hunkered indoors, streets once filled with cars became eerily quiet. Bars, shops and restaurants closed their doors.

Parents and grandparents were forced to shield in fear of their lives. The opening chapter of a story of such magnitude was surprisingly low key.
