BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - The suspect who barricaded himself inside a Brooksville home after a shooting and barn fire has been shot by Hernando County deputies, the sheriff said. This comes after two victims were taken to nearby trauma centers with gunshot wounds earlier Friday evening. Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said the suspect, identified as 64-year-old Steve Rosa, barricaded himself inside a home. Deputies looking for Steve Rosa after shooting and fire in Brooksville Investigators began trying to get Rosa out of the home, but they said he refused to come out and did not acknowledge them.

Idaho taxpayers will be on the hook for thousands of dollars toward the legal defense of accused killer Bryan Kohberger, whose lead attorney is contracted to be paid $200 per hour to represent him, according to a local report.Anne Taylor is a public defender for Idaho’s Kootenai County, but is being contracted to represent Kohberger in Latah County, where the Moscow student slayings were carried out, because of her expertise in handling capital murder cases. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating the suspicious death of a child in the city. According to officials, police responded to a residence on the 400 block of N 50th Street in the city's West Philadelphia section on Friday around 2:30 a.m. Authorities say when officers arrived they found a 3-year-old girl unresponsive in a bathtub with no water. Medics transported the child to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m., according to police. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOfficials say the child also had bruises on her body. No additional information was released by police. Police say the investigation is active and ongoing with the department's Special Victims Unit.

Tunkhannock Township, Pa. - A silicone doll, a plastic bag and a suspicious location led to an interesting investigation in a Pennsylvania town. According to the Tunkhannock Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to the creek along State Route 307 in Overfield Township on Monday for a possible report of human remains. Authorities say a man and his child were getting a ball from the creek when they saw a plastic bag with what looked like a human foot sticking out of it. Officers and the county coroner came to the scene to observe the bag but did not touch or move it, per police. Officials say the foot was "extremely lifelike," and Pennsylvania State Police was called in to offer assistance. It was then that investigators determined the contents of the bag were not human remains. "We've seen this item referred to as a mannequin online.

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University has lifted a shelter-in-place after an attempted armed robbery in close proximity to the campus, authorities say. According to the university, on Tuesday night, just before 11 p.m., the school was notified by Radnor Police of an attempted robbery with a weapon on the 100 commuter train. The university says they were informed the robbery suspect pulled a gun from his backpack and tried to rob the train conductor. No one was injured, and the suspect got off the train at the Aldwyn Station near the campus, police say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe suspect was seen fleeing on foot over the pedestrian bridge, per police. Officials from Radnor Police, Villanova University and nearby police departments searched the area, but did not locate the suspect, authorities say. Villanova Police say they have added additional patrols in the area as the shelter-in-place remains active Wednesday morning. 

COLOMBO (News 1st); Postal Voting for the upcoming Local Government Election will go ahead as planned on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of February 2023, confirmed the Chairman of the National Election Commission Attorney Nimal Punchihewa on Wednesday (15).He said that the distribution of the ballot papers for Postal Voting was delayed, though the distribution process was scheduled to commence on Tuesday (14).However, the Government Printer said that an issue arose regarding the provision of the ballot papers for the Postal Vote due to funding issues.In the meantime, the National Election Commission and the Government Printer had engaged in a series of talks and based on those discussions the Government Printers is expected to deliver the ballot papers for postal voting in the coming days.Moreover, Election Monitors have decided to take legal action against the conduct of the Government Printer for failing to deliver the ballot papers.Election Monitors said that the Government Printer has taken an unconstitutional decision to not deliver the ballot papers.Rohana Hettiarachchi, the Executive Director of the People's Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) said the National Election Commission must also take legal action against the Government Printer.Secure packages containing the ballot papers for postal voting were to be handed over to Sri Lanka Post on Wednesday (15), however as the ballot papers were not delivered, the process was suspended indefinitely as per a decision reached by the National Election Commission on Tuesday (14). 

PHILADELPHIA - Two teenagers were walking in a Philadelphia neighborhood when they were struck by gunfire in broad daylight last month.The shots rang out on the 5800 block of Lawrence Street in Olney during the afternoon of January 29.Police say a 17-year-old male victim and 18-year-old female victim were both shot once after an argument with a male suspect.MORE HEADLINES:Both were said to be in stable condition.The alleged shooter and another suspect both fled after the shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - North Carolina police have released a new photo of Madalina Cojocari, a missing 11-year-old girl whose disappearance was reported to police nearly two months ago.Madalina's disappearance wasn't made known to Cornelius police until Dec. 15, when her mother, Diana Cojocari, told school officials and local police that she hadn't seen her daughter since she went to her bedroom the night of Nov. 23 around 10 p.m.

NEW YORK - The man alleged to have been behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck that struck multiple people on and off the street in Brooklyn has been charged.Police say Weng Sor, 62, a man with a significant violent criminal history in Nevada, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.Police said at a press conference on Tuesday that after interviews with his family members and interrogation, they believe Sor was suffering from a mental health crisis. The NYPD announced Wednesday that Weng Sor, 62, a man with a history of mental illness and violent criminal incidents, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder after going on a rampage in a U-Haul truck in Brooklyn, striking pedestrians and killing one man.According to NYPD officials, Sor, who lives with his mother in Las Vegas, traveled to West Palm Beach in Florida on February 1 to rent a U-Haul truck. On February 5th, while traveling through South Carolina, en route to New York, he was stopped for reckless driving and marijuana possession by highway patrol. On February 6, Sor arrived at his ex-wife and son's residence, and a few days later on February 8, had an altercation with his son.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. - New Jersey State Police are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect accused of aggravated assault in Cumberland County over the weekend.A juvenile victim told officers that the man pulled out a semi-automatic handgun during an interaction in Lawrence Township on February 11.The man then pressed the gun into the juvenile's head before being interrupted by an approaching vehicle, according to authorities.He fled on foot towards Iron Bridge Road.MORE HEADLINES:The suspect is described as being a short man in his 30s with a red-colored beard.
