Hospitalised Covid-19 patient figures drop below 500

The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital has fallen below 500 for the first time this year, according to figures from the Health Service Executive.

Last night, 494 confirmed cases were recorded in hospitals, compared with 540 earlier in the day. It means that cases have fallen below 500 for the first time this year.

On 1 January, there were 508 Covid-19 patients in hospitals and the number rose during January to a peak of  2,020  cases on 18 January.

This was the highest number seen in hosptials during any of the three waves in Ireland. The peak of hospital cases during the first wave was 881 patients on 18 April last year.
