Health warning issued after Kinder Surprise treats linked to salmonella

Chocolate fans have been warned not to eat certain Kinder products that have been linked to a salmonella outbreak.The Food Standards Agency, along with Food Standards Scotland, are advising consumers not to eat choccie treats with best before dates between July 11, 2022 and October 7, 2022.This is in connection with a potential link to a salmonella outbreak, and a number of the cases have been young children.Investigations, led by UKHSA, Public Health Scotland, Public Health Wales and Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, have found a link between reported cases of salmonella poisoning across the UK and a specific product produced by the Ferrero company. In response to this, Ferrero has taken the precautionary step to withdraw selected batches of Kinder Surprise because it might be contaminated with salmonella.The products thought to be affected - 20g treats and packs of three 20g - have all been manufactured at the same factory in Belgium.

Other products manufactured by Kinder are not thought to be affected.Symptoms of salmonellosis typically resolve themselves within a few days and include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever.
