The HSE's Chief Executive will tell TDs and Senators later that although the health service is emerging from a very challenging period, it is not out of the woods yet.
Paul Reid and other HSE executives will be questioned at the Oireachtas Health Committee on the vaccination roll-out and ongoing measures to tackle the pandemic.
In his opening statement, Mr Reid will say that although coronavirus cases have fallen, the numbers remain very high. He will say that has an ongoing impact on acute and community services along with seasonal pressures.
On vaccinations, he will say the programme is building towards 250,000 doses per week. This will involve new IT systems, infrastructure and recruitment.
