The Health Secretary Sajid Javid is to hold the government’s first covid press conference for several weeks today, amid concerns over soaring infection rates.
Mr Javid is expected to give an update at Downing Street 5pm today. It comes as NHS leaders urged the government to enact a winter 'Plan B' and reintroduce some restrictions to stave off the virus.
But the Health Secretary is not expected to announce new Covid restrictions but he could warn that extra curbs such as masks and working from home could be imposed and give an update on booster vaccinations and the work of the Antivirals Taskforce.
