COVID-19 hospitalizations connected with current wave of the pandemic will likely peak in early May and remain high until the end of June.The latest Scarsin forecasting for Hamilton, presented during the city’s Board of Health meeting on Monday, was characterized as a “good news story” with the potential for just 20 intensive care (ICU) admissions from just under 300 hospitalizations between now and the end of the August.“Overall new hospital admissions of Hamiltonians are predicted to peak at approximately six per day in early May, which is earlier than we previously forecast,” HPHS epidemiologist Ruth Sanderson told board members. Starting in 2023, Pennsylvania residents will need a REAL ID to board a flight or access certain facilities.  PHILADELPHIA - Pennsylvanians who want to travel will soon need a little gold star on their diver's license in order to do so. The star, located in the upper right corner of Pennsylvania driver's licenses, indicates that the driver's license is a REAL ID, which is a credential that Pennsylvania residents will need to have in 2023.Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says REAL ID's will be required starting May 3, 2023 and residents will have the option to upgrade to a REAL ID at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) office. A standard license will not be valid to board a flight or access a secure federal building, like a military base or certain federal offices, according to PennDOT officials. "Although a year seems like a long time to get ready, the deadline will be upon us before you know it," says PennDOT Executive Deputy Secretary, Melissa Batula.

The good news is infections and hospital admissions have dropped since a peak last month, but the effects of the virus can linger.

PHILADELPHIA - The warm weather is fast approaching, which means so are the bugs and this year, some areas are seeing more wasps than ever before. Don Shump, owner of the Philadelphia Bee Company, says that because the weather has been fluctuating so much, some days the influx of wasps will be greater than others. "We go in boom, bust cycles. PHILADELPHIA - What started off as a painting is now Philadelphia's newest sculpture. On Sunday, the new "OY/YO" sculpture was installed outside the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History on 5th and Market Streets in Old City. "It's two little letters that speak to many, many communities," said Deborah Kass, the artist behind the eight feet tall sculpture. "OY/YO," depending on which side you look at the sculpture, will either read "YO" or "OY." Kass says "Yo" is a greeting term in many communities and "Oy" is a Yiddish term that signifies exasperation or worry. When you walk up to the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, the "YO" side of the sculpture is outfacing. Kass says she decided to have "YO" facing museum visitors because she likes the welcome that it represents. Kass created the first painting of "OY" in 2010 before creating its counterpart, "YO" a year later."In 2011, I made "YO" because I saw a reflection of "OY" in a window and the painting made itself," said Kass.In 2015, Kass created her first large "OY/YO" sculpture, which started out in between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges in New York City.

COVID-19 as hospitalizations continued to drop Monday.There were 2,170 patients being treated for the disease, a net decrease of 12 from the previous day. This comes after 97 admissions and 109 discharges in hospitals across the province.Intensive care unit cases related to the pandemic stood at 78, a rise of three.The daily tally included 906 new novel coronavirus cases but the count is based on results from PCR testing, which remains off limits to most of the population.

PHILADELPHIA - The former Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old TJ Siderio in South Philadelphia has been charged with murder, District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Monday. According to Krasner, former officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting. Mendoza is in custody and being held without bail, Krasner said during a Monday morning press conference, adding that no bail is normal for the seriousness of the charges. Police say four plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the area near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. on March 1 when they spotted two juveniles on bikes. According to investigators, officers noticed that one of the juveniles was armed with a handgun and turned on the emergency lights to confront him.

PHILADELPHIA - Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating a shooting that injured a man in West Mount Airy on Sunday night. According to police, officers from the 14th District responded to W Weaver Street for a report of a person with a gun. Authorities say officers arrived and found a man exiting a property on West Sharpnack Street onto Weaver Street. ___MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot multiple times in both arms, his right leg and left hand, police say. According to authorities, he was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police say his car was found resting halfway on the sidewalk and it was struck multiple times by gunfire. AdvertisementThe investigation is ongoing and police say they believe four to five suspects may have been involved. 

As many as 56 COVID-19 cases were reported from Mumbai on Monday pushing the tally to 10,59,970, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data showed. It also said that 53 of the 56 new cases were asymptomatic and the three persons admitted in hospital did not need oxygen support.

Sharon Osbourne shared a health update on her husband Ozzy, 73, after he caught Covid.The TV personality, 69, thanked her loyal fans for their unbelievable support during Ozzy's most recent diagnosis.The talk show presenter tweeted: "Thank you for all the well wishes and support. The usual notion is children are less susceptible to COVID-19, even then, some may contract severe infections, experiencing serious symptoms like heart, lungs, and brain diseases and acute respiratory distress syndrome.  A recent study has discovered the pathways that are activated in severe cases of COVID-19 in children. This can help in early diagnosis and targeted treatments.
