The decision on the scheduled reopening of indoor service in restaurants and pubs on 5 July will be made by Government late next week.
The Cabinet is expected to hear an update today on vaccinations and increasing concerns about the Delta variant, which was first identified in India.
It accounted for 20% of all new coronavirus infections reported in Ireland last week. However the general view in Government currently is that the next phase of reopening will proceed.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan described the increase - and a number of outbreaks linked to the variant - as "concerning".
