Education Secretary Gavin Williamson is set to give a Downing Street coronavirus press conference at 5pm today. The top Tory will appear before the nation on TV after announcing a £300m catch-up fund for schools in England.
It's thought to be the minister's first No10 Covid press briefing since July last year after his department suffered a series of controversies over school opening and exams.
Overnight Mr Williamson launched a short-term, £300m ‘recovery premium’ for catch-up schemes - worth about £6,000 for primaries and £22,000 for secondaries on average.
