Gardai are beginning an intensive policing operation ensure compliance with the additional restrictions announced by the Government today.
There will be increased number of static checkpoints on national roads from 7am tomorrow and additional garda patrols in scenic areas.
More uniform office-based gardaí will be deployed to frontline duties. The force said 70 trainees are also being sworn in as full-time members and 60 reservists will also be deployed.
Deputy Commissioner John Twomey says while gardaí will continue to engage, encourage and educate people, greater emphasis will be put on enforcement in cases where people are deemed to be flouting the restrictions.
