Gardaí investigate Covid incident at Donegal hospital

An investigation is under way into an incident where a man was encouraged to leave a Donegal hospital against medical advice while suffering with severe symptoms of Covid-19.

Gardaí said a senior investigating officer has been appointed to oversee the investigation into this and a number of other incidents at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Yesterday, it emerged that the man at the centre of the incident passed away on Friday. In a video shared widely on social media, the man was encouraged by an individual to discharge himself from the hospital, while doctors warned him that doing so could endanger his life.

It is understood he left the hospital, but returned a number of days later in a serious condition and was placed on a ventilator.
