COLOMBO (News 1st) – A suspect who distributes drugs procured from organized criminal Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata, who is currently in Dubai, has been arrested in Piliyandala.The police said that during a raid in Bokundara, the suspect was arrested along with 10 grams and 150 milligrams of heroin as well as cash earned from drug trafficking.The suspect has previously been identified as a suspect in connection with drugs and homicide cases still pending at the Balapitiya and Matara Courts.He is scheduled to be presented before the Kesbewa Magistrate Court today.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman early Friday morning in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square section. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the intersection of 18th and Walnut streets around 2 a.m.Investigators say a woman was sexually assaulted by a Black man with short hair who was wearing a gray shirt and gray jeans. He was reportedly last spotted fleeing down 18th Street, according to police. No information was provided on if the sexual assault suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras.

Hartman guilty of one count of rape of a child and two counts each of aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor.

PHILADELPHIA - An arson suspect who police believe hoarded hundreds of one-gallon jugs full of gasoline inside an abandoned West Philadelphia home was taken into custody on Wednesday. After more than a month on the run, investigators say 37-year-old Darren Arnold was spotted in the area of 10th street and Oregon Avenue Wednesday morning. The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested 37-year-old Darren Arnold on charges of arson and related offenses linked to "several incidents" on the 100 block of North 59th Street in August.The investigation began on August 1 when officers were called to an abandoned property on North 59th street for complaints of a strong gas smell coming from inside.RELATED HEADLINESAuthorities say 154 one-gallon milk jugs full of gasoline were found inside the property and a hazmat team was called. Neighboring homes were evacuated as crews removed the gas. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that the home had previously caught fire in March and had since been abandoned. Hours later, firefighters were called back to the property to extinguish a morning fire.

York Regional Police officer heading into work Wednesday morning was killed in a head-on crash in Markham, sources tell Global News.York police said emergency crews were called to the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Warden Avenue at around 6 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash.When officers arrived, they learned one driver had been killed, police said.Police did not release any details about the victim or anyone else who was injured in the crash, but Global News has since learned that the individual killed was a York Regional Police officer.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka Police said that two men were arrested on Wednesday (14) morning for abducting a woman and making a getaway in a car.The suspects were arrested by the Baddagama Police Officers.Sri Lanka Police said that the woman in question was traveling to an apparel factory in Dikwella, where she was employed.She was abducted by the men in a car, while en route to work.The men had proceeded to the Baddegama Exit on the Southern Expressway and Police Officers manning the post, had noticed that the woman's mouth was covered by the hand of one of the men seated at the back.The Police Officers informed the Baddegama Traffic Police Division and an operation was launched to stop the vehicle in Baddegama Town.Before stopping the car, police officers who in pursuit of the vehicle had observed that the back doors were locked, and a man was forcibly holding on to the woman at knifepoint.Police Officers had also noticed a tussle between the abductor and victim, said the Police statement.Thereafter, a Police Sergeant opened fire into the sky and broke the back-door windows of the car, pulling out the suspect, and the woman.Both were admitted to the Baddegama Hospital for injuries.The 23-year-old driver of the car was arrested and the car was seized.Sri Lanka Police said that the abduction was the result of an illicit affair, however, investigations are on

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia family is grieving the loss of a father of seven who authorities say was gunned down outside his home in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity. Investigators say 37-year-old Daniel Ruley was found dead on his front lawn of his family's home on the 100 block of Washington Lane in Germantown late Sunday night. It's believed that Ruley, a 13-year SEPTA employee, had just parked his car after dropping his wife off outside the home when a shooter exited a dark-colored vehicle and fired over a dozen times.A witness told police Ruley was ‘ambushed and executed’ by someone laying in wait, Captain Anthony Ginaldi relayed to reports at the scene of the shooting.Less than 24 hours after the murder, Captain Jason Smith of the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit said investigators believe Ruley was "completely innocent." MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"It sounds like the firearm possibly has a switch attached to it which would render it fully automatic," Smith told reporters about the shooter who is still being sought by police. Sharmaine Rush, Ruley's sister-in-law, spoke to FOX 29 on Monday and described the immeasurable impact that his death will have on his seven young children. "He was their hero, every last one of them, from the little one to the big one," Rush said. PHILADELPHIA - A teenage boy is being held responsible for the shooting of a 19-year-old at a busy SEPTA station in Philadelphia this summer, according to the District Attorney's Office.Police say the victim was shot in the chest, stomach and hand at the 15th Street Station under City Hall on July 14. He reportedly fought for his life for 13 days.Officials say the incident began after a 14-year-old suspect boarded a train at the 69th Street Station with a loaded 9mm gun. Both the suspect and victim reportedly got into an argument and drew guns when exiting the train. Officials say the suspect then shot the victim at close range and escaped in the chaos of running passengers.

PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery quickly turned into a shooting in Philadelphia's Nicetown neighborhood Monday morning.Police responded to the 1300 block of West Roosevelt Boulevard for a person with a gun around 1:20 a.m.A woman was reportedly shot in the ear a couple miles away on the 1300 block of St. Luke Street.

COLOMBO (News 1st); An Iranian and a Somali national who attempted to leave the country using fake passports have been arrested by immigration officials.The immigration officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport have arrested the two nationals, in their attempt to leave the country to go to France and South Africa.The immigration officials had inspected their passports over suspicion of being fake, and have subsequently arrested the two suspects.The suspects were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

HOUSTON - Officials say two would-be home invaders in Channelview were killed overnight Saturday and a third remains at large after they were confronted by a teen inside armed with a shotgun. MORE CRIME AND PUBLIC SAFETYAccording to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, three men in masks tried to break into a home in the 16000 block of 1st St. in east Harris County near Channelview First Baptist Church. The men were armed and inside the home were a 12-year-old boy and two teenage boys, both 17.

NEWARK, Del. - Two women in New Castle County are in critical condition after a reported domestic dispute and officer-involved shooting.Officials say the incident happened Friday night, around 8:30, at the Hunters Crossing Apartment complex on Fairway Road, in Newark.Officers responded to a call regarding a domestic incident at the complex. When they arrived, they found a woman shooting a firearm.Police discharged their weapons, hitting her in the torso.Police then found a 26-year-old woman nearby who had been shot several times by the suspect.Both women are listed in critical condition at Christiana Hospital.An investigation is ongoing.
