The former chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan, is to publish his memoir 'We Need to Talk' later this year. The memoir will be published by Eiru in September.
Dr Holohan served as Chief Medical Officer in Ireland for 14 years, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. He was also dealing with serious illness in his family as his wife Emer had cancer and died in February 2021.
Dr Holohan said "The responsibility of leading Ireland's response to the Covid 19 pandemic coincided with the most challenging time of my personal life. "Writing this book has given me the time to reflect on this and the many difficult, sometimes painful, personal and professional conversations that I had to have," he added.
Last March Dr Holohan announced he was stepping down from the role of CMO to take on a new role as Professor of Public Health Strategy and Leadership at Trinity College Dublin.
