Up to five people who attended a memorial in Birmingham later died after testing positive for coronavirus. The deaths have been revealed by Paul Lankester, Assistant Director of Regulation and Enforcement at Birmingham Council, during a virtual meeting with mosque leaders from the city.
The council's Director of Public Health Justin Varney was also present at the meeting, BirminghamLive reports. The memorial is believed to have been a street party in the city.
Mr Lankester said the council learned 'anecdotally' of the deaths and he also told how, in a separate incident, mourners had tried to break into a locked cemetery to attend a burial - expected to attract a crowd of 200.
