COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Feminist Collective for Economic Justice has strongly condemned the violence against peaceful protesters by the current regime in Sri Lanka.In a statement, it said that the world witnessed in horror as a mother and child were violently dragged away by the police, and a father in retreat with his child from police advancing in riot gear.It added that Sunday's (9) actions of the state are a poignant reminder of an authoritarian rule that is not subtle but blatantly undemocratic.

The Feminist Collective for Economic Justice demands the ceasing of all such illegal, illegitimate, and brutal acts by the state.They also demand the release of all persons arrested for protesting peacefully.  .

PHILADELPHIA - In a city struggling with violent crime, the Philadelphia City Controller’s Office has found that there are fewer police officers now than in recent years. "In total, we have over 640 fewer officers available for duty than we had 5 years ago," City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart explained in an interview with FOX 29’s Jeff Cole. Of the 6,000 Philadelphia police officers, Rhynhart reports on 2,500 are assigned to patrol the city’s streets. Broken down of 21 police districts, the controller’s office found that number left just 11 to 22 cops on the beat at any one time - per district - in a department budgeted at more than 750 million dollars at the time of the review.PPD Uniform Officer Staffing Levels (Philadelphia Office of the Controller) "That amount of money, when it comes down to it, there’s only 11 to 22 officers at any given time per district," Rhyhart said. "That feels outrageous in a city that is overrun with gun crime. PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are asking for the public's help in identifying a shooting suspect. According to police, the suspect fired a handgun several times into the windshield of an Infinity sedan in a parking lot located at 133 N 10th Street in the city's Chinatown neighborhood. Authorities say the incident happened on Thursday just before 2 p.m. The Infinity Sedan was being driven by an unknown person, who drove off from the scene without contacting police, officials say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice released video surveillance which shows the shooting after a crash involving the sedan and a silver Dodge Durango. According to authorities, the suspect arrived at and left the parking lot in the Dodge. Officials pointed out that the Dodge has a sunroof, tinted windows and a distinctive hood with scoops. Police say the vehicle has front-end damage and may no longer have a front bumper cover. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip online.
